Walter S. Hull II

Walter S. Hull, II, known to many simply as Walter, passed away on April 12, 2026, at Atlee Hill Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Westminster, Maryland, at the age of 89. He was born on June 26, 1936, in Baltimore County, Maryland. He was the son of the late Walter Calvert Hull and Lila B. (Bennett) Hull. Walter devoted much of his professional life to public service. He served as a dispatcher for the Maryland State Police in Pikesville for 20 years, where his reliability and calm manner made him a trusted member of the team. He later continued his career with the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration, serving as Branch Manager of the Frederick Branch for 20 years until his retirement. In both roles, he was respected for his strong work ethic and his commitment to helping others. Walter took great pride in his family, and his greatest joys were found in the people he loved. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary V. “Penny” Hull, whose companionship and devotion were central to his life. He is also survived by his son, David C. Hull and his wife Denise, and his daughter, Kathleen “Kat” Balch and her husband David. Walter was a proud grandfather to Logan Balch, Braeden Balch, Corey Hull, and Morgan Hull, each of whom brought him happiness and pride. He was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Hirsch. Walter was a man of many interests, and he found enjoyment in the simple pleasures that made life rich. He loved trains, cars, and birds, and he had a lifelong appreciation for the details and history that surrounded them. He was an avid reader of Hemmings Auto magazine, and he enjoyed keeping up with the world of automobiles. He also had a sweet tooth and was often seen enjoying hard candy. He also enjoyed crab cakes and fried oysters. These were small delights that reflected his fondness for life’s little comforts. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville where a funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, April 17, 2026. Interment will follow in Druid Ridge Cemetery, Pikesville.
