Mr. Robert Lee McCauley Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Robert L. McCauley age 85, of Mt. Airy Robert Lee McCauley, age 85, of Mt. Airy, died Monday, June 14, 2010, at the Carroll Hospital Center. Born January 9, 1925, in Elkins, WV, he was the son of the late Benjamin Harrison and Nora Poling McCauley. He was the husband of the late Betty Jo McCauley who died on July 9, 2007. Robert was retired from the Canton railroad. He had worked as an Engineer and as a fireman on a steam engine. He had served in the US Army during World War II. He served in the 26th Anti-Aircraft Artillery and spent 22 months overseas. He served in Normany, Northern France, the Rhineland and Central Europe. Robert had attended Morgan Chapel United Methodist Church, Woodbine and was a member of the Sykesville American Legion Post. He enjoyed hunting in his younger years, gardening, collecting coins and working with leather. He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law: William "Butch" McCauley of Baltimore, R. Michael and Diane McCauley of Knoxville, TN, Douglas A. and Mary Carol McCauley of Westminster and Joseph A. and Cheryl McCauley of Sykesville. He is survived by nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Robert was predeceased by brothers: Bill, Eugene and Pat and sister: Mary and an infant sister. He was predeceased by one grandson. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 am at the Haight Funeral Home & Chapel (6416 Sykesville Rd) Sykesville with Pastor Art Monroe officiating. Interment will be in Morgan Chapel Cemetery, Woodbine. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9pm at the funeral home.
