Mrs. Mary Margaret Schwaab

Mary Margaret Schwaab, age 89, of Westminster, passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2024. Born December 23, 1934 in Baltimore, she was the daughter of Margaret (Casey) Ridinger, the wife of the late Philip G. Schwaab, III and sister of Joan Offutt. Growing up in west Baltimore she was surrounded by an extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins. She attended St. Bernadine’s, the Institute of Notre Dame, and Mount St. Agnes, leading to an early career as a Baltimore City School teacher. She and Phil married and raised a family in the West Hills area of Baltimore and later Eldersburg. In Eldersburg she began her second career as a children’s librarian with the Carroll County Public Library where for 17 years she was happiest leading story times and aiding and encouraging young readers. She was a long-time parishioner at St. William of York parish in Baltimore, St Joseph’s Catholic Community in Eldersburg, and St. John’s Catholic Church in Westminster. For the last two years she has resided at Sun Valley Assisted Living. She was predeceased by husband Phil, sister Joan Offutt, brother-in-law Bill Offutt, son-in-law, Bill Hursey, great nephew Jake Offutt and many other family and friends. Her survivors include her children, Phil Schwaab (Cathy), Mary Lynn Hursey, Eric Schwaab (Valerie), Mary Ellen Burrus (Bernie), and Marc Schwaab (Tammy); grandchildren Kristen (John) Artes, Katie (Tommy) Zaferes, Karly (Storm) Coleman, Matthew (Amanda) Schwaab, Becca (Tim) Repko, Ali (Liam Argent) Schwaab, Andrew (Jenn Ho) Kestler, Rachel Schwaab, Maddie (Alex James) Schwaab, Jordan Kestler, and Sophie Schwaab; and great grandchildren Ben and Ethan Artes, Kimble Zaferes, Tatum and Brinley Coleman, Amelia Rozanski, Oliver Kestler, Theo Repko and Lachlan Argent; and many other beloved nieces, nephews, and their families. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, from 3:30 PM - 7 PM at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road in Sykesville. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at 11 AM at St. John Catholic Church, 43 Monroe Street in Westminster. Interment will be private at a later date in Springfield Cemetery in Sykesville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jake Offutt Foundation, the International Rhett Syndrome Foundation or the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
