Lucy P. Gagen Age 82 formerly of Sykesville Lucy Poplawski Gagen, 82, formerly of Sykesville, surrounded by her family, passed away on Monday, February 27, 2012 at Gilchrist Hospice in Columbia after a long battle with Multiple Myeloma. Born November 8, 1929 in Mattituck, NY, she was the daughter of the late Jan and Helen Wolpuik Poplawski. She was the wife of the late Charles E. "Chuck" Gagen. Lucy graduated from Mattituck High School and went on to a career in banking. On November 24, 1951 she was joined in marriage with Charles E. "Chuck" Gagen. She soon stepped away from her career to devote herself to raising their growing family. Lucy was a loving and devoted mother to her eight children. Chuck's career had the family moving several times and with each move Lucy settled the family into their new community. Lucy made friends wherever she lived and was a true friend to the end. After retirement, Chuck and Lucy enjoyed traveling with friends. When they made their final move to Charlestown, Lucy again settled in and in true fashion developed several close friends- her table companions. Surviving are her children and spouses, Kathleen Coleman of Glen Burnie, Timothy and Ann Gagen of Breckenridge, CO, Jan Gagen and Dave Cheeney of San Diego, CA, Charles Edward Gagen, Jr. of Catonsville, Margaret Gagen of Portage, Michigan, Eileen and Mike Jaeger of Oak Hill, VA, Theresa and James Hursey of Finksburg, and Patrick and Vanita Gagen of White Marsh. Her 16 grandchildren were Lucy's joy: Aaron (Kelly) Coleman, Daniel Coleman, Jonathan Coleman, Carly Gagen-Cheeney, Lauren (Scott) Smith, Matthew and Keli Gagen, Katharine and Mary McCarthy, Jeremy and Jessie Jaeger, Meaghan, Ryan and Devin Hursey, and Riley Rose and Liam Gagen, one great-grandson Declan Coleman, along with in-laws and numerous nieces and nephews. Lucy was predeceased by her brother, Stanley Popawski and by her sister Anna Poplawski Mackin. Funeral liturgy will be held on Friday March 2,2012 at 1:00pm at Our Lady of the Angels Chapel at Charlestown Retirement Community, Maiden Choice Ln, Catonsville. Interment will be held on Tue. March 6th 10:00am at Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery in Owings Mills. Friends may call at the Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Rd., Sykesville on Thursday March1st from 2-4 & 6-8pm. and at the Our Lady of Angels Chapel a half hour prior to the service.
