In Loving Memory of John Arthur Streat John Arthur Streat, 80, a beloved brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on April 20, 2025, in the comfort of family and caring medical professionals at Bridging Life in Northwest Hospital in Randallstown, MD. Born on April 10, 1945, in Cumberland, Virginia to John and Elsie (Toler) Streat (deceased.) John's life was a testament to love, laughter, kindness, and dedication. John graduated Luther P. Jackson High in 1963. In October 1965 he was drafted by the United States Army. He served a tour of Vietnam. Thanks be to God, he returned and searched for work. He spent 25 years as a bottler in a Pepsico Beverage Company in Baltimore, Maryland. After retirement from that company, he managed several local gas stations in Howard County, Maryland and worked as night watchman at Weis Grocery. These were perfect jobs where he met and held lengthy conversations about the local news events with customers including police, fire, and other community members. In 1974, he married Shirley Fay Neal and made home in Marriottsville, Maryland for forty-one years. Shirley passed away in May, 2015. John deeply missed their relationship and time spent in family events and their vacations in Ocean City, MD and other trips. John quietly pursued many passions. John's love for the great outdoors was apparent when he would forego family gatherings to enthusiastically attend noisy tractor pulls, smoky demolition derbies, and mule pulling outdoor events in country areas of Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. His enthusiasm for the working of long distance trucks excited him and in the days of “CB” communication made many trucking friends along US route US 70W. If asked, “where were you today?” his response might be “just riding.” That meant any backroads he hadn’t been on before. He read newspapers daily and listened to country music radio all day and sometimes all night. If Baltimore Orioles or Baltimore Ravens were on radio, he tuned in. Occasionally he would visit with nephew Ian and watch rounds of Tiger Woods golf and enjoy cookouts with his buddies. John is survived by his loving siblings Lestine Williams (Ben), Earl Dexter Streat, Sandra Parker, Linda Marie Washington, and Sonia Ford (Frank). He is also survived by bonus son Melvin Brooks, Jr. and bonus daughter Cheryl Hayes, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, many cousins and other extended family. John's memory will live on through family and friends, whose lives have been enriched by his unwavering love and support. We will think of him as living in the hearts of those he touched- for someone loved is never lost - And he was loved so much.
