Mr. John Peach Conrey

John Peach Conrey, 77, of Eldersburg, MD passed away on Wednesday, March, 27, 2019 at Seasons Hospice after complications from esophageal cancer surgery. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Jo-anna Salemi Conrey, his sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Barry Menne and his brother Richard “Skip” Conrey. Also survived by his son and daughter-in-law Michael and Allison Conrey and their children Emma, Lucy, Reed and Quinn; by his daughter and son-in-law Elizabeth Conrey and Yutan Getzler and their daughters, Aravah and Pninah; and by his son and daughter-in-law Jonathan and Nicole Conrey, and their children, Asher, Luca and Sofia. Also survived by many loving family members and friends. John was predeceased by his parents, John Plummer Conrey and Margaret Peach Conrey. He and his childhood friends grew up in Granite and Marriottsville, MD and gained interests in many things outdoor including hunting and fishing. As a youth he enjoyed his horse and developed traits of hard work and perseverance while working on a nearby farm. John also worked as a lifeguard at Sylvan Dell Pool in Granite where he met his wife Jo-anna in 1960. They wed in 1963 and remained together faithfully until John’s passing. He was a retired member of Bricklayers and Allied Craftsmen #1 of MD, having worked as a bricklayer, estimator and project manager. He later became a self-employed painting contractor. In retirement, he loved making cookies, fruit crisps with his own blueberries, apple butter and dried fruit for the enjoyment of his family and friends; preserving his family’s heirloom lima beans; and restoring and maintaining an 1850’s family farm in Wards Chapel, MD. He dearly loved his nine grandchildren. Throughout his life John spent countless hours in service to his community. He was a member of the Carroll County Gun Club, serving as Vice President for 15 years, the Garrison Rifle and Revolver Club, Sons of the American Legion, and Freedom Jaycees. He also served as a MD Hunter Safety Instructor and leader of Boy Scout Troop 719. John had been in sobriety for 21 years and as a member of AA, he was passionate about sharing his journey and encouraging others to stay sober. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trap shooting and trips to his property in West Virginia as well as mowing grass. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 6-8 p.m. and Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville, MD. A funeral Mass will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Community, 915 Liberty Road, Sykesville. Interment to follow at Wards Chapel Cemetery, Randallstown.
