Mr. J L "Tommy" Thomas Jr.

J L Thomas, Jr. J L "Tommy" Thomas, Jr., age 84 of Eldersburg, passed away and was promoted to heaven to be with his Savior on January 27, 2015 at his home. Born February 18, 1930 in Seguin, TX, he was the son of the late J L Thomas Sr. and the late Margaret Wilma Shannon Thomas. He was the devoted husband of Carlene M. Thomas of Eldersburg. He was predeceased by his first wife, Dorothy Thomas. He enjoyed spending time with his family and was a devoted friend to many. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served in the Korean War. He had been a cross country bus driver with Continental Trailways for 30 years. He was an active member and Deacon of Riverdale Baptist Church for several years; South Shore Baptist Church; and Grace Independent Baptist Church, and was a member of The Church of The Open Door in Westminster since moving to Carroll County. He was a short term missionary for over 20 years, making 18 trips to Russia, Ukraine and China. He also enjoyed bowling, golf, and worldwide travel. Surviving in addition to his loving wife are son and daughter-in-law John and Cathy Thomas of Ellicott City, daughters and sons-in-law Helen and Henry Lederer of Falls Church, VA, Carol and Mike King of Huntingtown, Debbie and Steve Magnotto of Gambrills, and Sheila and Daniel Dugan of Fulton, stepdaughter Cheryl Maurer and her husband Christopher of Rota Naval Base in Spain, stepson Craig Owen and his wife Annelise of La Mesa, CA, 14 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. He was predeceased by his sister, Janice Thompson. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:30 am at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Rd., Sykeville with Dr. John Campbell officiating. Interment in Crownsville Veterans Cemetery, Crownsville. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 pm on Friday and on Monday from 10:30am until the time of services.
