Mrs. Helena G. "Sis" Cheyne

Helena G. "Sis" Cheyne, age 92, of Sykesville, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 19, 2021. Born September 26, 1928, in Mt. Holly, NJ she was the daughter of the late Charles N. Gaskill and Laura H. Wills Gaskill. She was the loving wife of the late Leland C. Cheyne who died in 2005 from Alzheimer's disease. Helena's employment over the years included roles as a real estate agent with Clark and Associates, Long and Foster in Howard County, MD and she retired as Director of Admissions at Cadbury at Cherry Hill, a continuing care retirement community in Cherry Hill, NJ. She and her husband moved to Fairhaven Retirement Community, Sykesville in 1994. She was involved in many activities there which included singing in the chorus, organizing Veteran's Day remembrances and she was instrumental in starting their garden club in 1997. Helena was very involved with many non-profit organizations some of which included the Junior Woman's Club in NJ, Howard and Carroll County ACS, Glenelg High School Boosters Club and work with Alzheimer's Association of Central Maryland. Giving back to her community and helping others was important to her. Helena lived life to the fullest while having fun along the way. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Carey C. and KC Cheyne of Crawfordville, FL, Leland Russell and Kathy Cheyne of Ellicott City and Mark and Meg Cheyne of Manchester and daughter and son in law Deena and Roger Cook of Nanticoke, MD. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Helena was predeceased by brothers Robert W. Gaskill and Charles N. Gaskill, Jr. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7pm on Tuesday, March 23, 2021, at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville and on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 from 2 to 3pm at which time a service celebrating Helena's life will be held at the funeral home. Interment will be private. The service will be live streamed on Wednesday at 3pm.
