Mr Edward Paul Surowiec

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Edward Paul Surowiec, 88, on December 11th, 2022. Eddie passed peacefully and was surrounded by his family. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who was cherished and respected by all who knew him. He was married to his beloved wife Jean for 62 years, and together they raised 7 children who were his proudest accomplishment. He was predeceased by his son Paul and is survived by his wife Jean, his daughter Kathleen Dorton (Jim); and his sons Edward (Theresa), David (Laura), Stephen, Chris and Matthew (Carlee), and his 10 grandchildren James Dorton, Amanda (Dorton) Petrella (Alex), Elizabeth Dorton, Thomas Dorton (Kat), Edward Jr and Michael Surowiec, Alyssa, Justin and Jenna Surowiec, Odin Surowiec and his great grandson Lucas Petrella. He was also predeceased by his brother William and parents Mary and Edward F. Surowiec and is survived by his sister Jackie Duncan (Moe) of North Carolina and many nieces and nephews. Eddie was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York (Greenpoint) and served in the US Navy on a special class submarine during the Korean War. He had a very successful career as an Aerospace Engineer, where he was known for his sharp mind, attention to detail, and ability to get things done. He was well respected and admired by his colleagues for his hard work and dedication to his profession. Eddie became an avid runner later in life.He ran several marathons and was fond of his Florida running group. He ran several marathons including two Marine Corps. marathons, Big Sur, Disney and Chicago marathons.Eddie was a talented woodworker and enjoyed spending time creating beautiful pieces of furniture and decor for his family and friends. He was also a motorcycle enthusiast and enjoyed taking long summer trips on his Harley with his sons and grandsons to camp and fish in Colorado and Wyoming. He loved the open road and a good roadstop diner. Eddie took great joy in spending time with his family, especially his many grandchildren who brought him so much pride and happiness. He loved hearing about their accomplishments and was always there to offer his guidance and support. Eddie was known for his wise words and funny phrases. He could retell a story with precise detail and uncanny ability to recall events with exact times and dates. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him and leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, hard work, and dedication to his family.
