Edward Guy Becker

Edward Guy Becker of Sykesville, Maryland, peacefully passed away in his home on December 15, 2023, at the age of 64. Born July 11, 1959, he was the son of the late Carl Raymond Becker and Janice Catherine Becker. He is survived by his loving partner and best friend, Jane Cohen, his sister and brother-in-law, Amy and Zsolt Szeless, sister Laura Becker, and brother and sister-in-law Eric and Alison Becker. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Sheila Cohen, sister-in-law Suzanne Holman and her husband Chris as well as sister-in-law Carole Able and her husband Barry. He showed his love to his nieces and nephews, Nataleigh, Ilona, Irene, Drew, Dalton, Carl, and Carson by always sharing a bit of knowledge and curiosity about life. Ed was born in Baltimore and moved with the family to Sykesville in 1970 and two years later Jane’s family moved into the same neighborhood. Their friendship developed into “Ed and Jane,” and they were together for nearly fifty years. Ed graduated from South Carroll High School in 1977. He played varsity soccer, was active in the Key Club, and participated in early morning astronomy. He was a capable craftsman in many areas, but his vocation was carpentry, where he applied his outstanding math and artistry skills. Ed was a gardener, a mushroom forager, and an awesome cook. He was known for his competitive game play and the family sought him out as a strategic partner for cards or as a skilled opponent in board games. Ed will be remembered for his incredible storytelling, his gift of gab, and his broad knowledge in a number of subjects. Ed was most often among the last to leave a gathering or to get off of the phone. Ed was caring, honest, generous, stubborn, funny and would gladly help everyone. He will be terribly missed.
