Mr. Brett A. Welsh

Brett A. Welsh, 53, of Keymar, died unexpectedly, Thursday, July 7, 2011. Born in Frederick, Maryland on April 17, 1958, he was the son of the late John H. (Booty) Welsh, Jr. and Betty S. Welsh. He is survived by his companion of 17 years and wife of 3 years, Connie. He is also survived by his sister, Cindy Welsh of Westminster; mother-in-law Shirley Warehime of Taneytown; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Gale and Irvin Freyman of Westminster; Aunts and Uncles Maxine and Bob Koehler, Jerry and Helen Roper, and Tippy and Bill Doak, all of Morganton, North Carolina; cousins in Maryland, North Carolina, Colorado, California, and New York; a niece in North Carolina; a nephew and grandniece in Westminster; a grandnephew in Florida; and his four cats. A 1976 graduate of South Carroll High School, Brett enjoyed baseball as a youth, and was an outstanding pitcher and second baseman in both Little League and Pony League baseball in Carroll County. As a young boy he also sang in the Youth Choir of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Sykesville, and was a member of the Cub Scouts. Brett served a short time in the Army National Guard in the field of Field Artillery Cannon Operator/Fire Dir Assistant. Before Brett became disabled he was employed as a truck driver with Hughes Trash Removal for a number of years. Brett enjoyed bowling duckpins and pitching horseshoes for many years. His other interests included antique shop browsing, treasure hunting, rock hounding, fishing, and playing disc golf with friends when he was physically able. He also enjoyed his cats, nature, Maryland steamed crabs, the Ravens, reading and watching TV (especially history and true crime), and taking short trips around Maryland and longer vacation trips with his wife. He was well-read and intelligent, with an inventive mind. He wrote beautiful poetry and short stories, and had a wonderful sense of humor. Interment will be private. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at 1:00, at the Union Bridge Church of the Brethren, 24 South Main St., Union Bridge, MD, with his pastor, Rev. James Benedict, officiating.
