Mrs. Betty Lou L. Moores

Betty Lou Lavina Moores, 92, passed away peacefully at the Rebecca Fortney Inpatient Care Center of the Hospice of the Chesapeake on Tuesday, October 22, 2024. Betty Lou was born on October 13, 1932 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Clinton Wyatt Landon and Anna Elizabeth Landon). She was a graduate of Western High School and Franklin Square Hospital School of Nursing. Nursing was not just a career to Betty Lou, but a calling. She was a nurse at Franklin Square Hospital in both the city and county locations. She spent the last 20 years of her career at Bon Secours Hospital in West Baltimore. She briefly served as a visiting nurse when she and her husband moved to Carroll County. Family was very important to Betty Lou. She and her beloved husband William Moores celebrated 66 years of marriage before his passing in May, 2023. She loved her 3 children and adored her 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. In retirement, Betty developed a love for all things gardening. She even helped beautify the grounds of her assisted living facility, Arcadia of Crofton. Most importantly, Betty Lou was a devout Christian whose faith and service to her church inspired many. She was a life-long member of the Reformed Episcopal Church and attended both Bishop Cummins Reformed Episcopal Church in Catonsville and St. Stephen’s Reformed Episcopal Church in Eldersburg. In later years, she and her husband found a local home at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, where they were beloved by the congregation. Betty Lou lived a life of service to her family, patients, friends, and church. She will be missed by all. Betty Lou is survived by her three children; Judith, wife of David Ungar, of Florida, Clinton, husband of Audrey, of Maryland and Terri, wife of John Zseleczky, of Maryland; five grandchildren, Anna Somers (Darian), Kelly Moore, Evan Ungar, Laura Zseleczky (Corey), and Pete Zseleczky (Alice), and 2 great-grandchildren Sipsey and Wendell. The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 27, 2024, 1 PM - 4 PM at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Monday, October 28, 2024, at St. Stephen's Reformed Episcopal Church, 2275 Liberty Road, Sykesville. Interment private at Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery, Owings Mills. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to St. Andrew’s Anglican Church or St. Stephen’s Reformed Episcopal Church.
