Anna Long Mied

Anna Long Mied, 96, of Mt. Airy, MD, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, September 13, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was born on January 24, 1928, in Locust Gap (Northumberland County), PA to the late Frank Boblick and Elizabeth Walters Boblick. She was predeceased by husbands William Long who died in 1976 and Melvin Mied who died in 2015. Her first marriage to Carl Ruths, who died in 1997, ended in divorce. Anna had been a homemaker for most of her life. She had worked as a bookkeeper for the Franciscan Monastery in Hollidaysburg, PA for many years until her retirement in 1993. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Poplar Springs, MD, and before that at St. Catherine of Siena in Duncansville, PA.. She had a special love of cleanliness and order and her favorite pastime was cleaning house, which garnered her the nicknames “Mrs. Clean” and “The White Tornado” amongst her children. She had a fondness for crocheting many years ago which resulted in decades of doilies and afghans gifted to everyone’s homes. She loved to travel by car and had many adventures with her friends and family over the years, including a cross-country train trip with two of her sisters that was one of her favorite experiences to recount to anyone who would listen. She is survived by sons Steve Ruths of Damascus and William Long and wife Joelle of Mt. Airy, MD; daughter Deborah Rose and husband Gilbert of Rockville, MD; brothers: Thomas (Kathy) Boblick and Edward Boblick; sisters: Josita Bendas, Joan Minnich and Lucille (Paul) O'Brien; grandchildren Jared Pulliam and wife Hyeyoung "Anne", and Jessica Yastrzemsky and husband Adam; many nieces and nephews; and extended family Paul and Judy Mied, Kay Mied, and the many grandchildren and great grandchildren from their families. She was predeceased by daughter Susan Pulliam, son Carl Ruths and siblings James Boblick, Francis Boblick, Joseph Boblick, Mary Honicker, Betty Pauzer and Eleanor Yuhas, and step-son Richard Mied. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4pm on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville. A funeral mass will be held at 11am on Monday, September 23, 2024, at St. Michael's Catholic Church (Old Church), 1125 St. Michael's Road, Mount Airy, MD 21771.
