Mr. Alexis "Lex" N. Schwartz Jr.

Mr. Alexis "Lex" Newman Schwartz Jr. of Eldersburg, Maryland, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2025, at the age of 91. He was born in Lansdowne, Maryland to the late Alexis N. Schwartz Sr. and Hilda M. Schwartz (nee Radtke). Lex was known for his easy-going manner and infectious laugh. He truly enjoyed teaching/sharing his knowledge and experience with those around him. He was an architect and worked with Ayers Saint Gross in Baltimore for most of his career. He spent many years as a mentor of which he thoroughly enjoyed. He fully retired in 2013 and began pursuing his desire to become an artist. He drew pictures in pen and ink. He made his artwork available in many shows around the area including the Carroll County Farmer's Market. Lex attended Johns Hopkins University where he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in history. It was not uncommon for him to sit and have a discussion with family or friends about historical events. The manner in which he shared this information would make history come alive. He loved most sports. For many years you could find him on the softball field wearing the ASG (Ayers Saint Gross) colors. In high school he was a successful pitcher for the Catonsville Senior High school team (pitched a no hitter) and was even recruited by the Washington Senators. He was a big baseball fan and followed the Orioles religiously. He also enjoyed watching football cheering on the Ravens. He was a golfer and hardly missed an opportunity to watch golf. He also enjoyed shooting pool. He loved his family with all his heart and was so very proud of all of them. There was nothing he wouldn't do to help any member of his family. He was a devoted and loving husband to his late wife of 52 years, and a wonderful father to his children. When his wife Joy passed in 2010, he lost a piece of his heart but still made family a priority. He was a proud grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather. Lex was predeceased by his loving wife L. Joy Schwartz (nee Thomas), his son Alexis N. Schwartz III, and son-in-law Charles Moyer. He leaves behind his loving daughters; Darlene (Robb) McCormick of Eldersburg, Cheryl Moyer of Maine, and cherished sister Elaine Dawson of Sykesville. In addition, he is survived by his five grandchildren: Jessica McCormick, Robyn (Josh) Hughes, Amy McCormick, Michael (Jane) Moyer, and Casey Moyer, 10 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Funeral services will be at Haight Funeral Home and Chapel P.A., 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville, MD. A visitation will be held on Tuesday October 14, 2025, from 4-8 P.M, and Wednesday October15, 2025 from 10-11 A.M. with a funeral service following at 11:00. Entombment will follow at Loudon Park Cemetery.
