Aletha M. Staunton Hendrickson

Aletha Marjorie Staunton Hendrickson of Wellsville, PA, 81, entered peacefully into eternal rest with the Lord on November 14 at Manor Care Funeral Homes, York, PA, after brief illness. She was born to the late Arthur Kay Staunton and Ruth Evelyn Lambert Staunton on December 2, 1939, in California. She is survived by daughter Rachel Margaret Hendrickson, daughter Christina Marie Gould, foster daughter Rose Marie, and numerous nieces, nephews and grandchildren. She is predeceased by husband Glenn Hendrickson, daughter Theresa Gould and brother Robert Staunton. Aletha enjoyed many interests and hobbies, including but not limited to: her love of animals -exhibiting Borzoi, Turkish Angoras (self published a book on them), devoting many years to humane work and adopted many rescue pets; learning new musical instruments (didn’t ever quite master the bagpipes), singing in church groups (her brother was envious of her perfect pitch), crochet, knitting, teaching modern painting techniques at community center, researching friend’s genealogy, making and selling jewelry at craftshows, making pre-tied bow-ties and selling them online, and heritage farming. Most of her volunteer work was alongside her husband, she aided church programs in Westminster, Lisbon, and Baltimore, MD, writing word studies, teaching Sunday school and bible study lessons. They more recently served in the Chaplain’s office in Bethany Village as Bible study leaders. She especially enjoyed preparing for performances with her friends in doo wop group Jammin’ Jellies for the annual church talent show. Aletha graduated from Frederick Community College, University of Maryland-Baltimore County, and then earned her Masters and Ph.D. from University of Maryland. She went on to teach at University of Maryland and was asked to write a book on writing for accountants. She wrote for many publications, prepared grants, taught technical writing, and volunteered to teach resume writing and literacy. Her passion for writing was also exhibited in her poetry which she enjoyed giving to friends and family. Consistent with her life of service, please omit flowers as Aletha requested memorials to benefit New Hope Ministries or by supporting your local Human Society. Services are pending.
