Roger L. Lyons Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Roger L. Lyons passed unexpectedly but peacefully at home on Thursday June 30, 2022 at the age of 79. Born December 15, 1942, in Cockeysville, MD, he is the son of the late Lillian Inez Poole and George Wesley Lyons. He spent his younger years in Wytheville, VA and Fork, MD before moving to Sykesville where he attended Sykesville High School, earned the title of “most studious”, and graduated in 1961. He was a devoted husband of 59 years to Elizabeth (Henze) Lyons. After graduation, he joined the United States Navy, serving on the U.S.S. Albany as a Communications & Electronics Technician until he was honorably discharged in 1967. Since that time, he was a Cub Scout Pack Leader in the early 70s and a volunteer Medic with Sykesville Fire Department in the early 80s. He had a multitude of careers starting with Bendix Corporation, then was with AT&T until he retired after 30 years of service. He worked 15 years full-time for GDIT while also working part time at Georges Grocery store. In addition, he worked part time, for the past 22 years, at the Home Depot in Eldersburg up to the Tuesday before his passing. Surviving in addition to his wife Elizabeth, are son and daughter-in-law Richard & Michelle, daughter Lisa, sons David, Michael and Steve; grandchildren: Matthew and wife Amy, Shawn, Alan, Timothy, Andrew, Nicholas, Heather, Kira, Dane and Aubree and three great-grandchildren: Dakota, Harper and Maddie, and last but not least his cat Princess. A casual memorial service will be held in Legacy Hall at the Sykesville Freedom District Fire Department on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 from 11:00am - 2:00pm (6680 Sykesville Rd (Rt 32), Sykesville MD).
