Mr. Robert Heaton Bruce

July 4, 1936 - July 26, 2021

Robert Heaton Bruce, age 85 of Sykesville, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, July 26, 2021. Born July 4, 1936 in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late Edwin Heaton Bruce and the late Mary Louise Corbin Bruce Sheridan. He was the husband of Patricia Arlene Bruce of Sykesville, his wife of 40 years. He was retired from Verizon and had also worked for Baltimore Gas & Electric. Bob grew up at the Strawbridge Home for Boys in Sykesville. He was very patriotic and loved his family, picnics, and fishing. He was the state record holder since 2000 for his freshwater striped bass catch which weighed 47 pounds, 2 oz. He was also the family camera man for many years. Surviving are his children Barry Bruce and his spouse Shawna, Deborah Chapman and her husband Larry, and Bradford Bruce, brother Marcus William Bruce and his wife Edna Mae, 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews great nieces, great nephews and dear Sue Loper. Bob was beloved by so many people. He was predeceased by his grandson, Jonathan Lee Bruce. The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 1, 2021 from 6-8pm at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Rd., Sykesville. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 2, 2021 at 12 noon with Mark Jarema officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 11 am until the start of the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project at support wwp.orgt/wwp, to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, or to the charity of your choice.
