Michelle Leigh (Simon) Cox passed away peacefully on August 19th. Michelle, a vibrant spirit, was generous with her heart. If you were lucky enough to have a piece of it, your life was forever changed. Born February 20, 1981, to David and Patricia Simon, Michelle grew up in Ellicott City, relishing large family dinners, summers spent at the beach, and visits with extended family in Maryland and Pennsylvania. A graduate of Centennial High School and Towson University, Michelle collected a diverse group of friends who were attracted to the positive energy she infused in life. In any group she was a part of, Michelle was always everyone’s favorite. She had a way about her that made people feel truly valued. While caring for her ailing grandmother, Michelle realized what her family and friends already knew - she had a God given talent to help make people feel better. She went back to school. While attending the Baltimore School of Massage where she was studying and became a Licensed Massage Therapist, she met John, the love of her life. She continued her studies and became a Registered Nurse through Howard County Community College. In her last position, she worked in an advanced wound care center where she really connected with the patients while their severe wounds were healed. Married in 2010, Michelle and John enjoyed spending time in Deep Creek, a place that held a special meaning for them. Michelle became a proud mother to her daughters Ava and Jenna. It was as Ava and Jenna’s mom that Michelle shined most bright. The kind of mother people dream of having, Michelle made everything fun. Whether cuddling with her dog, Dasher, reading books in bed with her girls, or dancing in the kitchen with them while wearing her favorite fuzzy pants, Michelle exuded joy and love. Michelle bravely fought multiple health conditions for many years with the support of her faith, family, and friends. She loved cooking, gardening, pottery and visits to Deep Creek Lake. When her health kept her closer to home, she remained positive and hopeful. She started painting landscapes, and she continued to pass along her natural talents/skills to her daughters, side by side. She lived her life with grace and determination, inspiring others to do the same. Michelle found something redeeming in everything and everyone, from a piece of old furniture begging for a second chance to a neighbor needing a kind word. Michelle was the greatest of gifts. In the future, with the passing of each day, special occasion, or ordinary moment, we know that Michelle will be forever with us, and especially with her girls. Michelle was preceded in death by her father Dave. Surviving in addition to her husband, children, and mother, are her grandmother Norma, sisters Jennifer (Steve), Nicole (Mike), brothers Steven (Stephanie), David (Nina), sister-in-law Jamye; nieces and nephews, Kylie, Sadie, Aidan, McKenna, Zachary, Trevor, and D.J.; and numerous beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins spanning many generations. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8pm on Friday, August 26, 2022, at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville, MD where a funeral service will be held at 9:30am on Saturday, August 27, 2022, with Father Jim Ball as celebrant.
