Mrs. Marie Anna Harold Prematta (nee Flaig)

Marie “Ritie” Anna Harold Prematta (nee Flaig), age 90, of Sykesville, Maryland, passed away at 1:03pm on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 surrounded by her loved ones at her home in Fairhaven. She is survived by her four children, seven grandchildren, and great grandchild. Marie led an amazing and full life. She was born on May 24, 1925 in Ferndale, MD. She graduated from Glen Burnie High School and immediately joined the workforce. Marie married Joseph “Bud” Sanford Harold, Sr. and started a family. She was a loving mother to her five children; Joe, Tom, Mary, JoAnn, and Edward, her son who died in infancy. Marie and Bud owned several businesses together, with the Shangri-La in Pasadena, MD being the most known. Bud battled cancer and died at the young age of 45, leaving Marie a widow with four children. With support from close family and friends, she was able to continue running the businesses and raise her children. Marie then married John Anthony Prematta in 1970. Together, they raised Marie’s first grandson, Joey. Upon retirement, they moved to Elysburg, PA where they created many happy memories with their new friends. Elysburg was the home of many fond memories of the family; so much so, her family travels to Knoebels to relive memories. Two years after the passing of John, Marie relocated to Fairhaven in Sykesville, MD. Her time at Fairhaven allowed her to be closer to her family and enjoy an independent lifestyle. She thrived at Fairhaven as a social butterfly; you could find her participating in many activities whether it was playing bingo, mastering ceramics, or showing off her singing. While living the independent life, Marie was able to plan a family cruise and experience the Caribbean with all of her children and grandchildren. Her wisdom, her smile, her hugs, and her laughter; Marie’s beautiful love will be cherished by all who met her. Our family would like to extend a very special thank you to the amazing Fairhaven Staff & Gilchrist Hospice Staff. Their kindness, compassion, and wonderful care helped Marie through her long journey through dementia with dignity and comfort. A gathering will be held on Tuesday April 19, 2016 at Haight Funeral Home in Sykesville, MD. The family welcome friends to join them from 11:00am- 12:30pm followed by a Celebration of Life at 12:30 pm. A private family interment will follow at Glen Haven Memorial Park in Glen Burnie, MD.
