Margaret "Maggie" Dix LeVee Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Margaret “Maggie” Dix LeVee 89 of Eldersburg, MD, beloved wife, mother and Mimi passed away February 1, 2022, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Born in 1932 in Winfield, MD to the late P. Harvey Dix and Mildred B Dix (nee Buckingham), Maggie was a life long Maryland resident. A graduate of Towson State Teacher’s College, Maggie devoted her life to teaching, first in Baltimore City, then in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties. The only teacher to train a student teacher every semester during her association with the program at the University of Maryland, Maggie had the pleasure of starting dozens of student teachers into their own careers. Upon retiring from teaching, Maggie joined her husband in his consulting business and thoroughly enjoyed a second career until they both retired in 2004, leaving Bowie for Eldersburg to be closer to family. She is preceded in death by her sister, Mary Dell Wickham and brothers in law Robert D. Wickham and Gordon (Skip) L. Filbey, Jr. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Leonard Guy LeVee of Eldersburg, MD, sister Ann D. Filbey of Westminster, MD, her daughter Margaret Gail Winstanley and husband Bruce of Johnstown, PA, her son Philip G. LeVee and wife Susan of Eldersburg, MD. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, Amy M. Garza and husband Demetri of Albuquerque, NM, Robert DeFilippis of Hagerstown, MD, Philip Alan Brault and wife Alex of Lake Worth, FL, David Winstanley and wife Taylor of Stephens City, VA, Maxwell G. LeVee and wife Allison of Baltimore, MD and Caitlin M. LeVee of Baltimore, MD. In addition, she is also survived by 5 great grandchildren and 6 nieces and nephews. Throughout her long life, Maggie brought great joy with her wherever she went. She loved to travel, spend time with friends and of course, most of all, with her family. During her long career as a teacher she touched countless lives, who to this day, still talk about how Mrs. LeVee made such an impression on them. The 76 year love story between Maggie and Guy has been an inspiration to so many people. She will be missed more than she ever would have imagined. And those of us who lives have been touched by her are forever better for it. There will be a viewing at the Haight Funeral Home in Sykesville, MD on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, from 6-8pm. On Thursday, February 10 at Wesley Freedom United Methodist Church in Eldersburg there will be another viewing at 1:00pm, followed at 2:00pm by funeral services and interment. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bridging Life Hospice or the Alzheimer’s Association.
