Mrs. Laura E. Scott

Laura Elizabeth Conrey Shultz Scott, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2016 at the age of 100. She was born December 9, 1915, in Baltimore to Elden Earl Conrey, Sr. and Elizabeth Wallace Armstrong Conrey. She had lived in the same home in Randallstown from the time she was six and was able to remain there with the help, this past year, of her caregiver, Maria. During World War II, as a Red Cross volunteer, she drove supply trucks from New Jersey to Baltimore and drove people to the Bloodmobile in the city. She would have gone overseas but as the youngest of three siblings she was elected to stay home to care for her ailing mother. She was an avid horsewoman in her younger years and was an easy mark for any stray dog that happened by. Several dogs found a loving home with her. Her last pet drop-in was a black cat she called Ranger. After the War she worked at Randallstown National Bank that later became Maryland National Bank, for 40 years, rising to ever higher levels of responsibility to assistant manager until retiring. Following her marriage to the Rev. George Shultz of Mt. Paran Presbyterian Church she supported him in his mission and continued her close association with that church after his death. Laura had cared for her husband as his health declined, as she had for her mother and later for her sister, Marguerite who died in 1989. She married her second husband, James R. Scott, Sr. and helped to raise his six-year old daughter, Sally. He died in 1986 . She is survived by niece Barbara Erickson and nephew John, Step-son, Dr. Robert T. Scott and his wife Carolyn and step-daughter Sarah (Sally) Totten and husband Dennis. Step-grandchildren Allison Gladden and husband Greg of Taneytown, David Scott and wife Anne of Rockville, Andrew Ingalls of Westminster, Suzanne Scott and husband Lee of Winter Garden, FL, Laura Broadhead and husband Jason of Huntersville, NC, Bradley Thompson of Shippensburg, PA, Alicia Thompson of Hagerstown and 11 great-grandchildren. Cousin Thelma Conrey of Catonsville and several other Conrey cousins of Baltimore and Randallstown survive her. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, September 22, 2016 from 6 to 8pm at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville with the funeral service on Friday, September 23, 2016 at 1pm at Mt. Paran Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow at Wards Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mt. Paran Presbyterian Church, 10308 Liberty Road, Randallstown, MD 21133 or to Wards Chapel United Methodist Church, 11023 Liberty Road, Randallstown, MD 21133.
