John R. Dudderar Jr.

August 11, 1945 - October 18, 2021

John R. Dudderar, Jr., passed away Monday, October 18, 2021. He was born August 11, 1945 at St. Agnes Hospital, Baltimore, MD to the late John “Jack” R. Dudderar and Vivian (Wooten). He married Mary W. (Gillece) in 1973. He was the proud father of Jason B. (Jennifer), Andrew J., Major Matthew R. (Dr. Raquel) and grandfather of Caroline, Jane, Claire, Anna, David, Lucas and Isabella. He was predeceased by his younger sister, Mary Rebecca Dudderar. John graduated from Sykesville High School, University of Baltimore and University of Baltimore Law School. He also attended Virginia Commonwealth University to study rehabilitation counseling and University of Tennessee for the deaf education program. John was retired from the State of Maryland as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor and from his private law practice where he focused on real estate and estate planning. He started his career at Springfield Hospital as a recreation therapist and nurse’s aide. He was an avid fox hunter starting with Sterling “Buck” Blacksten’s pack and later with Taylorsville Hunt Club, Plum Run Hunt, and Carrollton Hounds. He was a member of Sykesville Rotary club and a charter member of the Bonds Meadow Rotary where he was secretary and received the Paul Harris Fellow Award. He was an active member of Toastmasters. He enjoyed many outdoor activities including canoeing, camping, bicycling and motor cycles. He had fond memories of leading boy scout trips for Troop 381 “Best Troop Under the Sun” to the Bahamas for sailing and New Mexico for horseback riding trips. He enjoyed many family vacations camping on Assateague Island, MD. He also had a passion for British sports cars. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 25, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at the Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Rd., Sykesville where a memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 26 at 10 a.m. with a reception to follow at Salernos, 1043 Liberty Rd., Eldersburg, MD. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Carrollton Hounds, P.O. Box 1631, Westminster, MD 21158 or Johns Hopkins University c/o Johns Hopkins Medicine with a note indicating Parkinson’s Disease & Movement Disorder, 550 North Broadway, Suite 724A, Baltimore MD 21205.
