Mrs. Hazel S. Collins

Hazel Serenia Collins, 93 was born on February 12, 1928 to the late James Clifton Dorsey and Sarah Elizabeth Norris-Dorsey. She transitioned to be with her Savior on March 18, 2021. Hazel received her education in Carroll County and graduated from Robert Moton School, class of 1946 in Westminster, Md. Hazel was employed at Renehan Apple Butter Factory. Later, she became a co-owner and driver with Collins Bus Service Contractors for Carroll County Public Schools. Hazel was married to the late George Howard Collins. From this union, two children were born: Phyllies Collins-Johnson and Bradley Collins. Hazel was a member of St. Luke United Methodist church. Her stewardship included serving the church as a member of the “The Voices of St. Luke” choir. Hazel was also a featured soprano soloist as a member of the Parrish Choir in Cooksville, Md. Hazel was a member of the Johnsville United Methodist church social club. Hazel also assisted with the meal preparation for their weekly Friday dinners. Hazel thoroughly enjoyed summer vegetable gardening and canning. She loved playing bingo, participating in the monthly family card games, viewing her daily soap operas, attending the annual Dorsey Family Reunion, and watching all Baltimore Orioles and Ravens televised broadcasts. As an expression of family endearment, Hazel took great pride in sending and receiving birthday cards. In addition to her children, those left to cherish her memory are daughter in-law Roxanne Collins; grandchildren Brandy Lee-Johnson, Tiara Collins, George Collins; great-grandchildren Neaveh Johnson, Josiah Johnson; stepchildren Jessica Garner, Marvin Collins; and stepdaughter in-law Sharon Collins. Sisters; Bernice Young, Thelma Smith, Mae Beard, and Grayson Dixon; Sisters-in-law Francis Dorsey, Joan Armstrong and Gladys Smith. Brothers-in-law; Walter Armstrong and Ronald Collins. Aunt Rosie Hutchinson and Uncle Warren (Tom) Dorsey God Daughter DeVonda Whittaker Hazel is preceded in death by her Sisters, Laura Dorsey, Sedonia Dorsey, Eliza Kane; Brothers, James Dorsey, Donald Dorsey, Delmar Dorsey, Calvin Dorsey; Sisters-in-law; Agnes Dorsey, Nettie Dorsey, Vivian Dorsey; Brothers-in-law Vernon Dorsey, Louis Kane, Richard Dixon, Louis Beard; Son-in-law, Norman Johnson, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends on Friday March 26, 2021 from 10:00-11:00 at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville where a funeral service will follow at 11:00 am.
