October 22, 1938 - August 26, 2021
Mr. Ernest Croce passed away in the morning hours on August 26, 2021, at the Birch Manor nursing home in Sykesville, MD. He was 82 years old and he lived a good life. Ernest was born in Manhattan, NY and lived most of his life in the surrounding Boroughs. He retired and moved to South Korea, and after his second wife passed away, he returned to the United States to live the remainder of his life. Ernest, as a musician, was a passionate drummer. He loved music, played in bands, and even taught music in his very own studio that he built in Queens, NY. He once taught drums to a famous person before he became famous! In the Army, Ernest was stationed in South Korea and played for the Army Music band, entertaining our troops. And that’s where he met his first wife. As a result, he is survived by his son, Joe Croce, and his daughter, Lucille Cole. He was also known as a comedian among his friends and even strangers. Cracking jokes was his pastime with anyone around him. To us kids it was always embarrassing but he would never cease to light up a room. Even when he knew he might die on certain occasions, he still couldn’t resist throwing a couple of jokes at the nurses. Ernest Croce was a limo driver for the better part of his life, driving famous people all around New York City. Sometimes his humor and his personality with his customers were so whacky and warm, they would specifically request him to drive them around over and over again. To sum up his life and two words, it would be music and humor. Not a day would pass, even through tough times, could he resist a joke. And his music was always there to keep him company. Ernest Croce lived a good life. The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 29th, 3-5pm at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville, MD 21784. Interment is private in St. Raymond Cemetery in New York.
