Dr. Donald Roger Beem

Dr. Donald Roger Beem, age 90 of Westminster, and formerly of Eldersburg, passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at BridgingLife Dove House in Westminster. Born May 26, 1931 in Colorado, he was the son of the late Fay Dwayne Beem and the late Mary Margaret Osman Beem. He was the husband of Sue Beem of Westminster, his wife of 65 years. Dr. Beem joined the Navy when he was 17 years old and after his honorable discharge he obtained his Undergraduate and Masters Degrees at Colorado State University in Zoology. During summer breaks from college Don, worked for the National Parks Service. He was an avid sport enthusiast and loved mountain climbing with the Colorado Forest Service, angler in Colorado, and watching football and other sports. Don’s career lead him east to DC where he was the Director of American Institute of Biological Sciences. He sat on several boards and societies where he championed the space program and life sciences. He obtained his PHD at Waldon University in 1981. Surviving in addition to his wife are daughter Vonnie Beem Keefe and her husband Steven, and grandchildren Ashton Keefe, and Steven Keefe and his wife Karrah Maskell. He was predeceased by his sister Donna Ellis. Services and interment will be private.
