Mr. Chuck Nemec

Chuck Nemec, age 73, passed away at home in the early morning of Friday, August 27, 2021. He was born April 14, 1948 in Baltimore and was the son of the late Carl C Nemec, Sr and late Catherine Nemec. He was the husband of Diane Nemec, his wife of 30 years and partner for over 34 years. Chuck’s first passion in life was being an amateur radio operator, affectionitly called a “ham”. He was first licensed in 1962, at the age of 14, and thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of Ham Radio his entire life. He loved participating in Field Days where he would set up his transmitting station along with 40,000 other hams throughout North America to demonstrate ham radio’s science. He was into all digital modes of ham radio, software defined radios (SDR), raised several antennas at his home, and experimented with building specialized circuits, and radio controllers. He was an avid supporter of the Logbook of the World (LoTW) and earned numerous awards which he proudly displayed in his very impressive home Ham Radio “shack”. Surviving in addition to his wife are his son Brian Nemec, sister Caren Prahl, brothers Christopher Nemec and Craig Nemec, and niece and nephews. The family will receive friends on Friday, Sept. 3rd, from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road in Sykesville where a Memorial service with Military Honors will follow at 12:00 pm. Interment is private at Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ARRL National Association for Amateur Radio at https://www.arrl.org/arrl-donation-form.
