Azucena (Zeny) Winterling, age 79 of Sykesville, died peacefully with her husband, children and niece by her side on Wednesday, September 15, 2021. Born April 10, 1942 in Manila, Philippines to parents Modesta and Delmacio Gregorio she was the youngest of seven children, Daniel, Lucina, Victorina, Catalina, Benjamin, and Robert. Zeny and her husband, Joe Winterling, were married for 53 years, dedicated to each other and their profound faith as Catholics. Surviving in addition to her husband, Joe, and her sister, Lucina, are her children; daughter Christina Winterling Koup, son-in-law Rick Koup, son Joey Winterling, daughter Angela Winterling Antony and son-in-law Tony Antony. Also survived by her grandchildren Taylor, David, Matthew, Hailey, Benjamin, Salaath, Zander and Dominic and great grandchild Kylo. The Winterling family has been active and committed parishioners of Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church in Eldersburg for over 40 years. Zeny, a pilar of faith and service in many ministries including music ministry, ministry to the elderly, homeless, homebound and much more. Zeny’s relationship with the Blessed Mother Mary was intimate, profound and constant. In addition to her church she also frequented Our Lady Center in Ellicott City and sang for many years with The Filipino Choir of Baltimore. Growing up in the Philippines her dreams and desires were made reality as an adult in the United States. After receiving her Bachelors of Science in Nursing and becoming a Registered Nurse. She was recruited by the German Government to work for the German Hospital System where she met her husband, Joe Winterling, while he was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany with the American Army. They were married there and had their first daughter, Christina before moving to Baltimore, MD. She always loved deeply her family, God and music. She found her calling to God’s service in the form of music ministry and as a deeply devoted wife, mother, friend, aunt, daughter and most especially as a Grandmother. Zeny was always full of energy and light. She saw the good in everyone she met and would always compliment anyone she came in contact with. She was inclusive, inviting anyone and everyone to lunch or a party. She impacted countless lives through her ministry and inclusivity, a mark that will be felt for generations to come. The Family will receive family, friends and community at Haight Funeral Home, Sykesville, MD on Monday, September 20, 2021 2:00 -4:00 pm and 6:00 - 8:00 pm. The Catholic Memorial Mass (funeral service) will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Eldersburg, MD on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at 11:00am. Burial follows at Springfield Cemetery, Sykesville, MD followed by a reception at St. Joseph’s Church Fellowship Hall.
