Mr. Walter Edward Bandell Jr.

On Saturday, April 22, 2023, Walter Edward Bandell, Jr. ,78, passed away peacefully at his home in Sykesville, Maryland. He was surrounded by family and comforted by his wife. Walt was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and was the son of the late Walter Edward Bandell, Sr. and Mildred Marie Bandell (nee Bennett). He attended Polytechnic Institute and after graduating he joined the Army. He served as a Radar Operator at the Nike Hercules Defense System in Elrama, Pennsylvania from 1963-1965. He then began working in the engineering field and was last employed at Fairchild Industries (later becoming Orbital Sciences Corporation) and retired from there after more than twenty years of employment. While there, he was first hired as a Design Draftsman and later promoted to Configuration Data Analyst. Through his attention to detail and perfectionism, Walt was the only person in his department to ever receive the Employee of the Month Award twice as well as an award for his work on the L.A.M.P.S. Program. He retired from there in 1999. He married his loving and devoted wife, Linda Bandell (nee Kidwell) in 1967. Together they raised four children; daughters Carol Bandell, Debra Cesenaro (husband Steve), Carla Shaffer (husband Allen), and son Walter Bandell III. After his retirement Walt enjoyed watching old cowboy movies, listening to music, playing cards with family and watching the antics of birds that he fed in our backyard. He had also always been an avid handyman and backyard mechanic able to tackle any houshold project or car maladies. He lovingly strove to impart his acquired wisdom, depth of passion, attention to detail and work ethic to his family. His strength of character, quirky sense of humor along with his ability to joke around and smile through all he endured are truly inspiring and cherished. Although we are grateful that he is now walking with the Lord, Walt will be deeply and greatly missed. In addition to his wife and four children, he is survived by grandchildren Brittany Jackson, Stephen Jackson, Tazman Cesenaro, Dayton Howell (husband Devon), Amber Shaffer (fiance Terrence), Savannah Cesenaro, and great grandchildren Jadyn Morgan and Tinley Howell. Also survived by sister in law Judy Sokol (husband Joel). Funeral arrangements were private. The family will have a Celebration of Life at a later date.
