Ms. Vilma Maria Landeta

On April 9, 2019 ,Vilma Maria Landeta, 91 of Sykesville, Maryland went home to be with the Lord. Vilma’s life began in Havana Cuba. She was preceded in death by her brother and sister, John and Norma. Vilma spent her childhood in New York, and lived in Florida before making Maryland her permanent home. She worked as an Executive Assistant to the Director of the Port of Baltimore for close to 30 years. Vilma received many awards and commendations. She also met her long-time friend Tony at the Port. Vilma had a passion for traveling and loved the places she visited such as Ireland, Spain, Italy, Greece. She had a soft spot for children and animals. She was blessed to serve as a Nanny to Ian after she retired. The love between Ian and his parents Harlan and Amanda has created an everlasting bond. Vilma also devoted her time translating Spanish to English to help patients communicate with the medical staff at the Mission of Mercy. She developed a loving friendship with Barbara, Juanita, and Migdalia from this experience. Vilma lost her sight to glaucoma which was devasting. She learned to cope with her blindness with many caring hands that helped her. Bobbie Jo, Dawn and Kelly were instrumental helping her adjust. Vilma’s Catholic faith was very important to her. She met a lot of wonderful people especially Carol Triplett who administered communion to her and helped her in her last days. Her friend Luisa faithfully said the rosary at her bedside. Vilma’s heart was complete when she met Connie and Yesli six years ago. They both showed so much compassion for Vilma during some of her difficult days and were with her until her last day on earth. They were dedicated to meeting all of her needs. Vilma is survived by her children, Glenn and Sue Vidal, the late John Vidal, Scott and Christine Berger, and Michele and Carl Sciacchitano. Vilma has two beloved grandsons Joshua Vidal and Steven Sciacchitano. Vilma loved deeply her nieces and nephew, Emilie and the late Ed Palmer, the late Yolanda Singleton, Ana and Kent Benedict, Sean and Donna Landeta and their son Joseph. Vilma also adored her great nephews and niece; the late Kevin Kessler and his surviving wife Tracy and their sons Cameron and Carson, Chris and Lorri Kessler and their daughters Tiffany and Kristina, as well as Rex and Kerry Singleton and their children Miles and Lily, and Lucy and Yanis Mana and children Corbin and Conner. A funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Community, 915 Liberty Road Sykesville Maryland 21784 on Monday April 15th at 2pm. Vilma will be interned at Springfield cemetery, 7300 Spout Hill Road, Sykesville, Maryland immediately following the mass where she will be reunited with her son John. A gathering will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church immediately following the cemetery for refreshments.
