Vassilia Catherine Batlas Agoris age, 85, formerly of Sykesville, MD Vassilia Catherine Batlas Agoris, age 85, of New Windsor, formerly of Sykesville, died Friday, September 2, 2011, at her home in New Windsor. Born April 8, 1926, in Morgantown, WV, she was the daughter of the late Theodore and Calliope Batlas. She was the wife of the late Constantinos "Gus" Agoris who died in 1999. Known to most as Catherine, had worked in her younger years in the West Virginia University mailroom; she later worked as Film Assistant for the Audio-Visual Department at the university. Upon moving to Sykesville, she worked at the Springfield Hospital Center. She became certified as an activities coordinator and in food service management. She had also worked at Lake View Domiciliary Care Center. She had worked for about 10 years in her son, Nick's moving business. Catherine had worked as a volunteer in life enrichment, the cub scouts and the Liberty Recreation Council. She had also been active at the South Carroll and Westminster Senior Centers. Catherine was the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award of scouting. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law: Nicholas and Diana Agoris of Reisterstown, Richard and Crystal Agoris of New Windsor and Irene Agoris of Tarpon Springs, FL and sister: Mary T. Harris of Swansey, IL. She is also survived by grandchildren: Catherine, Corin, Christine and Valessa. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, the late Dr. Peter Agoris and brothers: Christie and Nicholas Batlas. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11am at the Haight Funeral Home & Chapel (6416 Sykesville Rd), Sykesville. Interment will be in New Oakland Cemetery, Sykesville. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm.
