Seth James Lara

Seth James Lara Age 19 of Sykesville Seth James Lara, 19, died Wednesday, August 7, 2013 in Sykesville, MD. Born July 6, 1994, in Corpus Christi, TX, he was the son of Mark E. Lara and his wife Melinda of San Antonio, TX and Shelly L. Tumbach and her husband Robert of Sykesville. Seth loved sports, loved music, and most of all he loved his friends and family. Throughout his youth he played soccer, football, basketball and baseball and most recently coached a recreational basketball team for Freedom Area Rec Council this past winter. He was passionate about snowboarding and spent countless hours and weekends in the Terrain Park at Ski Liberty with his brother and best friends. He thought he made it when he and his brother and friends were "featured" on a Ski Liberty brochure. Seth was an avid sports fan; his favorite teams were the San Antonio Spurs, the Houston Texans and the Pittsburg Steelers. He enjoyed taunting all of the Ravens Fans, including his family and rarely missed the Steelers /Ravens match-up at home from the first year the Ravens came to Baltimore. He was making preparations to enlist in the United States Air Force. Surviving, in addition to his parents are grandparents Gail I. Slacum of Sykesville and Rudy and Charlotte Lara of San Antonio, TX; brother Blake William Lara of Sykesville; brother Jeremy Ramirez, and sisters Dani and Desi Ramirez, Uncles and Aunts Scott Slacum of Catonsville, Tommy and Debbie Lara of San Antonio, TX, Charles and Laura Lara of San Antonio, TX, Steve and Levi Lara of San Antonio, TX, Mike Lara of San Antonio, TX, Patricia Whitman of Sacramento, CA, Vincent Lara of San Antonio, TX, and Julie and Rene Juarez of San Antonio, TX; and 15 cousins. He was predeceased by grandfather William I. Slacum, Jr. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Haight Funeral Home and Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Meadowridge Memorial Park in Elkridge.
