Mr Richard Gary Miller

Richard “Gary” Miller, 84, who recently moved to Dover, DE, from Fair Oaks, CA, passed away on November 12, 2025 at the University of Maryland Medical Center. He was the eldest born to the late DeSelma and Vera Miller in Rialto, CA, on May 11, 1941. Gary was also preceded in death by his sister, Marilyn Berwald, and brother, Russell Miller. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Corazon Miller; his three children and their spouses: Shari Miller of Delaware, Richard Miller (Jessica) of South Carolina, Patricia Doxzen (Duane) of Maryland; his 17 grandchildren: Matthew (Ginger), Tiffany, Brandon (Deanna), Nathan (Julie), Michael (Kayla), Charity, Nora, Noah, Aubrey, Chad, Hannah, Piper, Evangelynne, Veda, Olivia, Lila, and Isaiah; his family through marriage: Agnes (Andrew) Carrano, Ayrin Balilo, Arnel (Jean) Balilo, Alex Balilo, Cris Ignaci, and six grandchildren; his 12 great grandchildren; and Toby, his beloved Shih tzu. Gary joined the Navy after graduating high school, serving two years before his honorable discharge. In 1965, he began working as a contractor for NASA, becoming an aerospace engineer. This took him all over the world with his young family living for a time in Madagascar and Ecuador, as well as shorter travel assignments to launch satellites. One of his last projects was working on the Hubble Space Telescope. It was his job for NASA which brought him to Maryland in 1974, where he stayed until moving to Delaware after his retirement in 2001. It was there that Gary met Cora and they married in February 2003. They enjoyed their time together living in Florida and California. Gary was always an avid reader of books, and later his Kindle, who enjoyed studying and researching. Before retirement, he enjoyed golfing and watching golf and other sports on TV, as well as pastel drawing and oil painting. In later years, his favorite things were singing, including karaoke, line dancing, and playing guitar, which he self-taught through watching YouTube. At age 83, Gary found another hobby he obsessed over, driving and being driven by his red Tesla, affectionately named Lady Cora. She drove him cross-country to visit family for a month in summer 2024. Gary moved back to Delaware in March of this year, again driven by Lady Cora, so he could enjoy spending time with his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His family feels very blessed and grateful to have made special memories with him over the last several months. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 2 PM, at Faith Lutheran Church, 1700 St. Andrews Way, Eldersburg, MD, with Rev. Christopher Sperb officiating.
