Mrs. Paula S. Justice

Paula Justice, age 67 of Sykesville, Maryland, unexpectedly passed on July 21, 2024 due to complications of a ruptured brain aneurysm, surrounded by loved ones. Paula came into the world in Connellsville, Pennsylvania on November 23, 1956 to Janice and Robert Shaeffer of Bethany Beach, Delaware. In addition to her parents, Paula is survived by her husband David Justice, children Kevin Justice, Stacy Justice and Joey Vickers, grandchildren James and Jaxson Justice and Emma and Alexx Vickers, siblings Joy Burghart, Bruce Shaeffer, Karen Collins, and Linda Scharf, and many extended family members. Paula was kind, caring, and generous, traits that were reflected both at home and work. She earned her Associate’s Degree in Nursing from Howard Community College and Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and Nursing Administration from University of Phoenix. Paula has spent the last 47 years working at Johns Hopkins Hospital, with 44 years dedicated to the Adult Emergency Department. Through her efforts as a registered nurse and manager, Paula has saved and influenced countless lives while never seeking or expecting thanks for her work. Knowing she helped others was thanks enough. That selflessness extended to her personal life, too. Paula continued to help others after her passing by being an organ donor. Paula’s unexpected passing comes as a shock to her family, friends, and loved ones, who are still reeling at the loss. She lived a vibrant life and still had so much ahead of her. Paula was an avid fitness lover who achieved 20,000 steps per day through walking, Zumba, pickleball, line-dancing and more. She loved her trips to the beaches in Delaware and Florida where she would pick up litter to help protect all ocean life, but especially sea turtles. Paula also enjoyed her adventures with family to Europe, Mexico, and Nashville. Paula was well known for her green thumb, collection of African Violets, and ability to revive any plant. In addition to her dedication to her work at the hospital, she was also a devoted Lions Club member to help individuals in the community. Paula was taken far too soon. The family will receive friends at a Celebration of Life in Loving Memory of Paula on Saturday, August 10, 2024 from 1 PM to 5 PM at Winfield Community Hall located at 1320 West Old Liberty Rd., Sykesville, MD 21784.
