Milton Nix Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Mr. Milton Estes Nix, Sr., age 88, husband of Edith Bolton Nix, died February 4, 2010 at their home in Commerce, GA, after an extended illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dilmus Herbert and Lillian Maley Nix; brothers, Joe, Hal, and Herbert, Jr. and a sister, Ruth Nix Crews.Born September 13, 1921 in Apple Valley, GA, he was educated at Commerce High School. The WWII veteran served with the United States Navy in the Pacific. After his retirement as VP and general manager of A.D. Bolton Chevrolet, he directed the renovation of Commerce Civic Center, and served as its general manager. He was a member for 82 years of Commerce First United Methodist Church, where he was trustee chairman for 17 years, sang in the choir, and was a member of the Methodist Men’s S.S. Class. A Kiwanis Club member, he served with the Commerce Fire Dept. for 20 years.Survivors, in addition to his wife of 68 years, include a sister-in-law, Mrs. Joseph (Eutelle) Nix of Apple Valley; son, Milton Nix, Jr. (Buddy) and his wife, Mackie of Conyers, GA; daughter, Nancy Nix Goodroe and her husband, Jim of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren, Milton Nix, III (Tony) of Kennesaw, GA; Natalie Nix Mitchell and her husband, Russell of McKinney, TX; Lt. Col. Robert Goodroe and his wife Jill of El Paso, TX; Dr. Randall Goodroe and his wife Liz of Myrtle Beach, SC and Rev. Ryan Goodroe and his wife Andrea of Hartsville, SC; and thirteen great-grandchildren.Funeral services will be at 2 PM, Sunday, February 7 at Commerce First United Methodist Church with Dr. David Bowen and Dr. Jim Goodroe officiating. Interment will follow in Jackson Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday night from 6 to 8 PM. Doug Bolton, Mike Bower, Randy Goodroe, Rob Goodroe, Russell Mitchell, Johnny Nix, Lamar Nix and Tony Nix will serve as pallbearers.
