Marilyn M. Harron

Marilyn M. Harron, 70, of Eldersburg, MD, formerly of St. Augustine, FL and Columbia, MD, died Wednesday, October 10, 2018 after a brave battle with cancer. Born October 22, 1947 in Hazleton, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Mildred Mervine and the late William Mervine, and wife of the late Richard Harron for 40 years. Surviving in Eldersburg are daughters and sons-in-law Stephanie and Samuel Keenan, Jennifer and Kal Ayoub; son and daughter-in-law Thomas and Liana Harron of Brooklyn, NY; grandchildren Connor, Sean, Alina, Allen, and Ronan; and sister Nancy Henry. In her youth she and was active in sports. She was a majorette in high school, member of the Girls’ Varsity Club, and lettered in both field hockey and softball at Ridley Township Senior High. At Ridley, she was the Features Editor of the Green Raider, was an honor student, served on the Executive Council, and participated in class plays and assembly programs. After high school, she graduated from the Bryn Mawr Hospital School of Medical Technology. She was a Board Certified Histologic Technician for 15 years. Throughout her career, she was a histologist at Bryn Mawr Hospital, a homemaker, she led after-school craft classes at the elementary school level, and served as an Instructional Assistant at Northfield Elementary in the Howard County Public School System. She was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi for over 40 years, serving as a sister, officer, Woman of the Year, President, and founding member of the Xi Beta Gamma chapter. Along with her sisters, she was involved in local and national philanthropies, raising money and items to support the NICU at Howard County General Hospital, Lorien Nursing Home, and Springfield Hospital. She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Ellicott City and later a member of United Church of Christ in Lake Helen, FL. She kept busy as a member of the Lake Helen Crafty Ladies and the Lake Helen Garden Club, volunteering at Outside the Gates Food Pantry at Lake Helen United Methodist Church, and acting as caregiver to her mother. She was a member of the West Volusia Historical Society and helped with Lake Helen House Tours. She enjoyed yoga, reading, crafting, and spending time with her grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 19 from 6-8pm at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville, MD. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 1pm also at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel. Interment will be private at a later date.
