Mrs. Marie LePore Balderson

Marie LePore Balderson April 14, 1945 - December 18, 2024 Marie LePore Balderson, 79, of Glenwood Maryland and formerly of Baltimore, passed away at the Howard County Medical Center on December 18, 2024, after a brief illness. Marie was born on April 14,1945 in Baltimore to Alfred and Marie LePore. Her father owned a television repair shop, and her mother worked for the state of Maryland for a social service agency that provided opportunities for the disabled. Marie attended parochial school at Saint Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church on South Broadway in Baltimore City, and graduated from Seton High School, Baltimore. Marie is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Stuart Franklin Balderson, who was the Chief Financial Clerk of the United States Senate for many years. Marie worked as an office manager for the Senate for both the Senate Committee on the Environment and Public Works and the Senate Intelligence Committee, until her retirement. Both Marie and Stuart were very proud of their many years of dedication to government service in our Nation’s Capitol where they spent long hours when Congress was in session, serving the people of the United States. Prior to her government service, Marie was a secretary for a Baltimore law firm, and a legal assistant for the Maryland Attorney General’s Office. Marie and Stuart first met at the famous Washington restaurant, The Monocle, where their love story began. Marie enjoyed spending time with Stuart and family near the water at their condo in Ocean City, or on the river at their place in Ophelia, VA. She was an amazing cook, and particularly enjoyed preparing Maryland hardshell crabs and many other seafood delicacies. Marie enjoyed gardening, spending time with family and friends in conversation and in playing any type of card game. In recent years, she became a national expert in the game of Sequence, keeping close tabs on the players, monitoring the winners and losers, and ardently making sure no one broke the rules. In addition to her husband, Marie is also survived by a sister, Susan Dorsey of Broomfield, Colorado, and two stepchildren, Suzanne Lund, and Jill Wirth (Stephen), both of Fort Myers, Florida and a godson Jason Lauver (Jamie) of Goshen, Indiana. A memorial service will be scheduled at the convenience of the family and details will be provided at www.haightfuneralhome.com Inurnment will take place later at Arlington National Cemetery. The family suggests that donations in memory of Marie be made to the American Cancer Society.
