Mr. Lee Ramsburg

Lee B. Ramsburg, 89, of Sykesville, MD, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 24, 2023, at the Dove House Hospice Center in Westminster, MD. He was born on September 3, 1934, in Jefferson County, WV to the late Herbert O. and Mary Jane (Furr) Ramsburg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Florence E. James, Eva Clark, Hilda Guth, Pauline DeHaven, Jessie Boyd; brothers H. Clarence Ramsburg and Wilbur Glenn Ramsburg. He was also the loving and devoted husband of nearly 67 years to his wife, Charlotte F. Ramsburg. Lee served as Staff Sargeant in the West Virginia Air National Guard for 12 years. Shortly after high school, he was employed by Acme Stores in Charles Town, WV where he was Store Manager. He then joined Potomac Edison Power Company as a meter reader. Throughout this time, Lee was also a volunteer member of the Independent Fire Company in Charles Town, WV. After Lee and Charlotte relocated to Ellicott City, MD in 1968, he joined United Airlines working in ground services at Friendship International Airport (now BWI) and later Dulles International Airport before retiring with 26 years of service. He also worked for Safeway Stores, Inc. in full and part-time roles for more than 45 years and into his eighties before retiring from there as well. Lee loved music and singing from his earliest days as a leader in his high school band, where he and Charlotte met. At age 15 he joined the Barbershop Harmony Society and remained an avid member and participant for more than 74 years until his passing. Locally, he was an active member of the Patapsco Valley Chapter of the Heart of Maryland Chorus for many years. As well, he was very active in the Choir of Bethany United Methodist Church. He was also an enthusiast of railroad, aircraft, farm, and heavy equipment, a love he passed down to his son and grandson. He enjoyed wood-working, watching the Orioles’ and Ravens, and spending time with his beloved family. He had a natural talent and passion for construction and home improvement tasks, skills that he utilized on many improvements to his own home as well as those of family over the years and while working part-time for multiple friends in the construction and remodeling business. He had so many friends throughout the community through his work at Safeway, his service at Bethany United Methodist Church, his involvement in Barbershop chorus and his general love of people. For more than 40 years, no matter the weather, he gathered early in the morning at numerous establishments with friends from all walks of life for coffee and lighthearted banter about current events and goings-on among the groups. Surviving in addition to his wife, are his son, Todd Ramsburg & wife, Jane of Finksburg, MD, grandson Christopher Ramsburg, and granddaughter Lesa Ramsburg. He treasured his time with his grandson and granddaughter. In particular, he loved attending and watching their extracurricular events, including Lesa’s many 4-H and FFA activities. With Christopher at a young age, they could often be found working alongside one another in his workshop building an assortment of toys, games, and furniture. Always ready for a road trip, some of his fondest memories were an RV trip he made with Todd and Christopher to attend the EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, WI in 2011 as well as long-distance driving trips across the country that he and Charlotte made. Also, he and Charlotte recalled many great experiences with good friends on numerous cruises, bus trips, barbershop competition trips, and local outings. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7pm on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville. A funeral service, led by Senior Pastor Andrew Cooney, will be held at 10AM on Friday, December 1, 2023, at Bethany United Methodist Church, 2875 Bethany Lane in Ellicott City, MD. Following the service, family and friends are invited to enjoy a luncheon in the church hall. Interment will follow at approximately 2:30PM at Edge Hill Cemetery, 604 Hunter Street, Charles Town, WV.
