Larry Jay Loftice

Larry Jay Loftice, age 83, passed from this life on to his heavenly home on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at BridgingLife’s Dove House in Westminster, Maryland. His family and friends miss him dearly, but are comforted knowing his joy as he sees his Jesus, Lord and Savior, and hears Him say, “Well done, My good and faithful servant.” Larry was born June 5, 1939, in Rose Hill, Virginia to the late Dewey Edward Loftice and Mildred Neff Loftice. He treasured growing up amidst the Blue Ridge Mountains in Southwest Virginia, and had many tales to share about his youth. Larry shared cherished memories of walking to Martin’s Creek to visit his Granny and Pappy Neff’s home, where he spent much time with family, including his Uncles Claude and Pete Neff and Aunt Juanita Neff. At age 15, Larry moved with his family to Dundalk, Maryland. He graduated from Dundalk High School in 1957 and then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served his country honorably for the next four years. While stationed in Washington D.C. his sister, Mary Jo played matchmaker and introduced him to Charlene Minor, a member of the Loftices' home church, Colgate Baptist in Dundalk. They were married in 1960 and had two children. They resided in Essex until 1973 when Larry built a home in Sykesville where they have resided since. Larry and Charlene are described by their kids as “love birds” and they are so proud of how Larry adores their mother, setting a good example of love and devotion. Larry was a hardworking, ambitious man and worked alongside aunts and uncles at Western Electric for a short time. Thereafter he worked with his father, and later his son, at Hendersen-Webb Inc., a construction and land development company in Cockeysville. He eventually rose to the position of Vice President of Construction before retiring in 1992. In 1993 he and his son Ed formed Pinnacle Construction Company. Larry enjoyed nature, birds, “tending God’s garden,” and sports, especially golf. He was the senior club champion at the Woods Golf Resort, Hedgesville, West Virginia in 1996, 1997 and 1998, and was the overall club champion in 1998. He was a member of the Sincerity Masonic Lodge and the American Legion. Surviving in addition to his wife of 62 years, Charlene M. Loftice, are son Edward Jay Loftice and wife Kristy, daughter and son-in-law, Laura Jayne and John Farnan, and sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Robert Amend. He was predeceased by sister, Mary Jo Bartlett. Larry treasured his grandchildren Stephanie Farnan, Nicholas Jay and wife Ashley, and Holly and husband Brian Rice. He cherished his great-grandchildren, Lucy, Penny, Corbi Jay and Britton. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews. The memorial will be held on Sunday, January 8, 2023, at Haight Funeral Home, 6416 Sykesville Road (Rt. 32), Sykesville, MD. The family will receive visitors from 12pm – 2:00pm, followed by a 2:00pm service in the chapel.
