Larry Maurice Irons

Larry Maurice Irons, age 84 of Hagerstown, formerly of Sykesville, passed away at his home, November 10, 2023, under hospice care, surrounded by his family. Born February 28, 1939, in Frederick, he was the son of the late Maurice Albert and Mary Freda Keefer Irons. He was the devoted husband of Judith Lee Lerch Irons of Hagerstown, his wife of 60 years. Surviving in addition to his wife are sons Duane (Judith Little) Irons of Sykesville, daughter-in-law Jeannette “Jenny” Irons, Brian (Jennifer) Irons of Frederick, sisters Lois (Roger) Wilson, Elizabeth (Kenneth) Kurtz, Gloria (Jim) Merek, Iris Mielke, Janice (“Whitie”) Townson, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Helen Irons, Esther Lerch, Linda Staples, John D. Lewis, Kathy (Steve) Davis, grandchildren and spouses Andrea (Josh) Guyer, Olivia (Connor) Alves, Carlos (Haley) Irons, Ayla (Shvan) Zangana, Leah (Karim) Darwish, Isaac, Addison, Andersen, Oliver and 7 great grandchildren. Larry was preceded in death by his son, Rodney Irons, brother, Gary Irons, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-laws, James Staples, Barbara Ann Cooper and husband Howard Cooper, Edward “Bucky” Lerch and Gloria Jean Lewis. Larry was a 1957 graduate of Sykesville High School and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Larry worked for Baltimore Gas & Electric, retiring in 2002. He loved riding his Harley Davidson, dancing, taking road trips with Judy, rooting for the Ravens and Orioles and talking to everyone he crossed paths with, whether it would be family, friends or strangers. Larry was known throughout Carroll County and beyond for his support of sports, namely wrestling and football. He would travel all over to support kids he knew and especially his own children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He loved supporting those he loved and you always knew when he was there. The family will receive friends at Haight Funeral Home, 6416 Sykesville Rd, Eldersburg, MD 21784, on November 20 from 5-7 p.m., with a small service afterwards. Interment will be private.
