Mr. Kenneth E. Carfine

Kenneth E. Carfine Age 60 of Woodbine Kenneth Edward Carfine, 60 of Woodbine, died Friday, April 23, 2010 at Gilchrist Hospice Center in Towson, after a long and valiant battle with cancer. He was born July 9, 1949 in Baltimore. He was the husband of Deborah Joan Carfine of Woodbine, his wife of 41 years. He was the son of the late Armond Henry and Gladys Marie Carfine. He was a graduate of the University of Baltimore with a B.S. degree in Accounting. He was the current Fiscal Assistant Secretary of the Department of the Treasury, Washington, DC. He helped direct the Treasury’s American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and led the development of two new programs designed to stimulate economic growth. He also led the implementation of the national debit card to receive Social Security benefits. His distinguished career with the Treasury Department spanned over three decades including development and implementation of cash and investment management, debt financing, trust fund investment, and government wide accounting. His battle with cancer exemplified the way in which he lived his entire life, with dignity, humility, hard work, determination and with his family always on his mind and in his heart. Surviving in addition to his wife are sons and daughter-in-law Kenneth Edward Carfine Jr., and Gregory Scott and Jeanne Carfine, grandchildren Marley Jeanne and Kendall Madeline Carfine, mother-in-law and father-in-law William and Joan Schmidt, sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Susan and Allen Klaschus and Denise Martin, nephews Matthew and Shawn Klaschus and Jonathan Martin, siblings Elaine Hanratty and husband Owen, Richard Carfine and wife Lila, Carol Chachulski and husband Frank, Armond Carfine Jr. and wife Nancy, James Carfine and wife Roxanne, and Ronald Carfine, nephews and niece Owen, Michael and Jimmy Hanratty, and Ashley Carfine, and many friends and colleagues. Funeral liturgy will be held on Wednesday at 11am at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 1125 St. Michael’s Rd., Poplar Springs with Rev. Michael Ruane as celebrant. Friends may call at the Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Rd., Sykesville on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9pm.
