Mrs. Kathleen B. Crouse

Kathleen B. Crouse, age 87, who is known as Kathy, passed away on Tuesday, February 19, 2019. Kathy was born on November 25, 1931 in Baltimore, Maryland; and for 62 years she was the beloved wife of the late Edward W. Crouse, Sr., who died in 2012. Kathy is survived by her son, Edward Crouse, Jr. from Baltimore, MD; daughter, Patricia Miner (husband Rick) from Arbutus, MD, and son, Jim Crouse (wife Sharon) from Westminster, MD. She is also known as "Nanny" by her two loving granddaughters, Nikki and her husband Andrew Young of Millersville, MD, and Jami and her husband Jayson Kimsey, who are currently living in Germany. Kathy is also "Nanny" to her two cherished great-grandsons, Caleb and Nolan Young. Kathy loved spending time with her family, and she especially enjoyed outings with her children. She was drawn to a personal relationship with Jesus as a child, at which time she discovered her natural talent for playing the piano. At a young age, she met her husband, Ed, the love of her life, and they married in 1950. Kathy worked hard to help provide for their family. Among other things, she served as a waitress, worked in a box factory, and fostered children. For 22 years, in her home, she cared for three women from Spring Grove Hospital Center. She was crowned "Avon Queen" in 1962. For 45 years, Kathy used her God-given musical talents to sing and serve as organist at Ellicott City Church and ministered to residents at local nursing homes. Incredibly, without any formal training, she also played the accordian, harpsichord, guitar and drums. Over time, Kathy developed the talent for writing songs and poems, and in 2012 after she moved to Charlestown Community in Catonsville, she drew an audience of over 100 residents every Friday night to sing along to her music. She also volunteered with the Gideons International, giving Bibles written in Spanish to Hispanic student workers at Charlestown. In 2014, Kathy was inducted into the Maryland Senior Citizens Hall of Fame--her name recorded in the Archives of the Hall of Fame for all time because of her caring and volunteer efforts in improving the lives of others. In 2017, Kathy became the Charlestown Star as she co-wrote, sang songs, and recorded a CD about her experiences at Charlestown Community. Up until the day of her passing, Kathy's greatest passion here on earth was to share the love of Jesus through prayer, words, music, and poetry. Kathy's family will receive friends at her viewing on Sunday, February 24, 2019 from 2:00-5:00 p.m. at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Rd., Sykesville, Maryland. The funeral service will also be held at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel in the chapel on Monday, February 25, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be held following the funeral service at Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Marriottsville.
