Mr. Joseph Charles Notaro

Mr. Joseph C. Notaro died peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family on October 10th. 2017. He was the son of the late Frank and Louise Notaro. Mr. Notaro was a 1954 graduate of Fairleigh Dickenson University, where he played basketball and met the love of his life, Ann Woodland. They shared 55 years of marriage and together raised 5 daughters, also known as ‘the chippies’. He was extremely patriotic, and spent 2 years in the army, stationed at Fort Myer in the Honor Guard. He was a business man, a Vice President of risk management in the insurance field before retiring to Ocean Pines, MD. He spent his earlier years playing and coaching sports, before transitioning into a not so quiet spectator at his children and grandchildrens’ sporting events. He valued his Italian upbringing, and passed on a strong sense of family and tradition, which can best be seen in the memories he made surrounded by his family. Playing games, telling stories, eating Italian food, and laughing was always a common theme when family was together. Mr. Notaro leaves behind a legacy of dedication and love, where his family always came first. He is survived by his five daughters, LuAnn Siler (Mike) of Selbyville, DE, Bette Williams (Pete) of Clarksville, MD, Jane Grabowski (Rick) of Madison, AL, Joan Gonzales (Alex), of Marlton, NJ, and Andrea Brandt (Gary) of Woodbine, MD. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren with two more on the way, one sister, Vinnie Riccio, as well as 2 step grandchildren and 6 step great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Notaro, granddaughter Gretchen Brandt and siblings Tom Notaro, Lucy Marone and Francis Levine. A Celebration of Life for Mr. Notaro will be held at Bethesda United Methodist Church, 8300 Old Georgetown Rd., Bethesda, MD 20814, at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 16, 2017. The family will be receiving guests an hour prior to the service.
