Mr. John Aloysius Keenan

John A. Keenan, 89, Retired Baltimore City Fire Fighter John (Jack) A. Keenan, a former Baltimore City Firefighter died on Sunday, October 7, 2018, at the Golden Crest Assisted Living facility in Westminster. He was 89 and lived in Owings Mills. Mr. Keenan had a 37-year career as a Fire Fighter originally assigned to Engine Company No. 46 on Reisterstown Road near Belvedere Avenue. Most of his career was spent at Truck 22. He performed many of the fire fighter duties serving on the ambulance and the various fire trucks including being a tiller driver on the Hook and Ladder vehicle. He finished his career at the Truck 27. The Baltimore City Fire Department Board of Fire Commissioners awarded an “Exemplary Performance” honor to John Keenan “for displaying outstanding proficiency of duty which reflected credit to the Fire Department”. As a member of the Armed Forces, Mr. Keenan was assigned to the 3rd Infantry, U.S. Army at Fort Myer, VA. He served on the distinguished Old Guard responsible for guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The Old Guard recognized Mr. Keenan with a certificate honoring his outstanding performance of duty while a member of this prestigious group. Born and reared in Walbrook, in 1953 he married the former Joan A. Blizzard, who predeceased him. Jack and Joan traveled extensively and enjoyed being with family and friends. The Keenans also spent much time visiting the sick and shut-ins. He was a member of The Church of Saint Cecilia and Ward’s Chapel United Methodist Church. He is survived by his son, Charles T. Keenan and his wife Janis of Eldersburg; a daughter, Carol M. Wuenschel and her husband John of Sykesville; a brother Edward Keenan of Westminster; five grandchildren, Wade Keenan, Hayley Keenan, James Young, Connie Tumulty and Kerrie Davis. Viewing for Mr. Keenan will be held Wednesday, October 10, 2018, at 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-7:30 p.m. at Haight Funeral Home and Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville. A prayer service will be held on Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m. Interment will be on Friday, October 12, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at Lakeview Memorial Park, 2724 Liberty Road, Sykesville, MD. Those who wish, may donate in Jack’s name to Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Ave. Westminster, MD 21157; great people doing a tough job with compassion, caring and respect to the people in their care.
