Mr. James Alfred Tony

James A. Tony, age 71, succumbed to pancreatic cancer peacefully after a heroic battle on December 13, 2016. He was born to the late Namie and Alexandra Tony in Waynesburg, PA. Jim graduated from Mapletown High School in 1963 and received a MS in Mathematics from California University of PA in 1967. He married Linda Ward in 1970 and lived in Ellicott City for 40 years before moving to Eldersburg. Jim was a passionate educator. He taught in Anne Arundel County Public Schools. He also owned Catonsville Transmission and Engine Repair in Catonsville, MD for 32 years prior to returning to Anne Arundel County Public Schools. For many years, Jim raced all types of cars from sports cars, sprint cars to dirt track oval Late Models. During his 40 plus years in business and racing he made many lifelong friends. He was always working for the best interest of his family, either through his many real estate deals or his many years trying to outsmart the stock market. He was always scanning the horizon for a dollar! Jim dedicated his life to altruism and will always be a model of generosity and compassion. He believed "The Joy was in the Journey" and always approached life with an optimistic outlook. A selfless man, dedicated to his family, he will be missed by every soul he touched and he went out of his way to touch everyone he met. Jim was survived by his loving wife Linda Lou Tony of 46 years; sons and daughters-in-law Jon and Jenn Tony and Bill and Giovanna Tony; daughter Andrea Tony; precious grandsons, Justin Paolo Tony and Christian James Tony; sister and brother-in-law Betty Jane and Wendell Winkler. He is also survived by 5 nieces, 6 nephews, 11 great nieces and 4 great nephews. He was predeceased by brothers Richard and Edward Tony. The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 18, 2016, from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville, MD 21784. A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 19, 2016, 11am at Holy Cross Orthodox Church, 105 N. Camp Meade Road, Linthicum Heights, MD 21090. Interment to follow at Springfield Cemetery, Sykesville. In lieu of flowers, Jim requested donations to be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
