Mr. H. Kenneth Daly

H. Kenneth Daly World War II B25 Aviator Henry Kenneth Daly, 93, of “Annondale”, Woodbine, MD, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, July 8, 2013. Mr. Daly was born December 14, 1919 in Baltimore, MD. He was the son of the late Henry Thomas Daly and Sarah Anna Tuchton Daly. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth (Betty) Ann Daly. Mr. Daly graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute in 1938. He excelled in sports and was a varsity member of the ice hockey, football and lacrosse teams. His greatest feat was a 99 yard punt return winning touchdown at the last second against Mount St. Joe’s. Mr. Daly was a professional tenor soloist who studied at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore. He received the Henry Barton Jacobs soloist medal at Grace and St Peter’s Church, Baltimore, when he was 14. He became one of the highest paid tenor soloists in Baltimore at Emmanuel Lutheran, Second Presbyterian Church, St Michael the Archangel Church, St Marks United Methodist Church, and Howard Park Methodist Church where he met his future wife of 70 years. Mr. Daly enlisted in the Army-AirCorp and flew as Captain in B-25s in the CBI (China-Burma-India) Pacific Campaign. He was responsible for bringing Chiang Kai-Shek’s army out of the interior. When he came back from World War II, he remained in the Reserves until 1955. He continued his singing career, and had his own radio program of songs on WBAL. In 1961, Mr. Daly and his family moved to western Howard County where he continued his business interests into his eighties, owning and operating several businesses: Page, Kaufman, Daly, Howard County Supply, Laboratory Engineering Co., Edwards and Company, and the Daly Corp. Mr. Daly was an avid horseman, and ran horses at Laurel, Timonium, Pimlico, Penn National and Charlestown, WV. He was past Commissioner of the Howard County Pony Club, past President and founding member of the Lochearn Pool in Baltimore County, past member of the Howard County- Ironbridge Hunt Club, past member of Holly Hills County Club, past member of Cattail Creek County Club, and a member of Jennings Chapel Methodist Church for over 50 years. He loved playing golf, bridge and poker, tennis, swimming and diving, and was known for his famous back flips off the diving board. He is survived by three children, Kenneth Craig Daly, Barbara Ann Floyd, and Terry Daly Warfield and her husband Tim; loving grandfather of Kenneth Craig Daly, Jr. and his wife Becky, Kevin Daly, Keith Daly, Courtney Ueltschy and her husband Mark, and Robyn Spitz and her husband John, and Sean Floyd; eight great-grandchildren, Sarah, Alex and Emily Daly, Madison and Averie Ueltschy, Colin, Carson and Corynne Spitz, and a host of extended family members and loving friends. He was predeceased by his brother Charles Robert Daly and his sister Virgina E. Meyer. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 12, 2013, 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm at Jennings Chapel United Methodist Church, Woodbine, MD. A Service of Celebration and Thanksgiving will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2103, 11am at Jennings Chapel United Methodist Church with interment immediately following in the church cemetery.
