Gregory Michael Stange

Gregory Michael Stange, 42, of Columbia, Maryland, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, August 29, 2025. He was born November 27, 1982, in Busan, South Korea and adopted as an infant by Sandra Naecker and Michael Stange in Portland, Oregon. Greg most recently worked as a travel nurse on the West Coast. Greg was a 2001 graduate of Liberty High School and earned his Masters in Applied Sociology from UMBC in 2010. He later returned to school, studying at University of Maryland School of Nursing, and became a registered nurse in 2015. Greg was a registered nurse at R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland before becoming a travel nurse. Greg worked in Arizona, California, Idaho, Oregon and Washington as a travel nurse. He spent his free time enjoying the natural beauty of his temporary postings and exploring the outdoors (and restaurants) on the West Coast. Greg was particularly fond of fishing and crabbing. When Greg became interested in something, he was all in. He played football and lacrosse in high school, and other pastimes over the years included paintball, kenpo, video games and visiting casinos. Perhaps most of all, Greg loved a great meal, whether restaurant-made or cooked at home-as well as telling a story about it. Last year Greg returned to Maryland to live with his sister Jen and her family in Columbia while he took time to contemplate his next steps. Just like in their young adult years, Greg always had a movie or show to recommend to his sister. Jen’s son Simon loved to visit Uncle Greg’s apartment in hopes of playing Minecraft on his Xbox. Greg is preceded in death by his father, Michael. He is survived by his mother Sandi and stepfather Bob, who considered him a son, sister Jen, brother-in-law Jason, nephew Simon, stepmother, two half-brothers, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, stepfamily and friends. In keeping with how Greg lived his life, no funeral or memorial service will be held. The family has entrusted Haight Funeral Home with cremation services.
