Gilbert E. Harig Jr. Age 72 of Waynesboro, VA Gilbert Edward Harig Jr., 72 of Waynesboro, VA, passed away on Monday, October 12, 2010 at UVA after a brief illness. Born July 8, 1938 in Catonsville, he was the son of Katherine M. Harig and the late Gilbert E. Harig Sr. He was the husband of Nancy C. Harig, of Waynesboro, VA, his wife of 50 years. Gil was a member of Finley Memorial Presbyterian Church of Stuarts Draft. He was proud to have served in the U.S. Navy and worked as a parachute rigger. He retired after 30 years from the United Parcel Service where he held various management positions. He was an active board member of the East Augusta Weekday Religious Education Program. He was a 33rd degree Masonic Mason with membership in the Scottish Rite of Lynchburg, VA, Corinthian Lodge No. 93 of Maryland, and Eureka Lodge No. 195 of Bridgewater, Virginia. Gil was a loving and caring man who was always ready to help wherever he was needed. Everybody loved his sense of humor. He loved fishing, pinochle, loved spending time with his buddy and loved going on cruises. Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are son and daughter-in-law Gilbert E. Harig III and Pamela Harig of Fishersville, VA, daughter and son-in-law Tracey Harig Fitzgerald and Kip Fitzgerald of Bridgewater, VA, grandchildren Brandon and Taylor Fitzgerald, and Brandon, Ashley, Daniel, Ethan, Emiley, and Ian Harig, brothers Thomas A. Harig of Taneytown, and Charles R. Harig of Baltimore, and special brother-in-law Herbert G. Barthlow of Lewisburg, WV. He was predeceased by his daughter, Judith Ann and by his sister Catherine Harrod. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 3pm at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville. Interment in Lake View Memorial Park, Sykesville. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 2pm until the time of services.
