Genevieve A. Cook

Genevieve Cook was born on March 4, 1922, to Clarence and Lily Anderson and departed this life on May 29, 2024. She lived to celebrate her 102nd birthday. She was one of 5 children all of whom, except one, Vernon, preceded her in death. She was the oldest living member of Mt. Gregory United Methodist Church in Cooksville, MD prior to death. Genevieve or “Aunt Bee” as she was lovingly called by her nieces, graduated from Cooksville High School in 1940 as class Salutatorian. She later attended the St. Paul School of Nursing in Baltimore and for many years, as a practical nurse, took care of a prominent family’s invalid daughter in Baltimore. Once their daughter died, she worked as a domestic worker for Western Howard County families until her retirement. For many years, she worked for the Riley family in Glenwood, Maryland. “Aunt Bee” was an outstanding cook and was especially well known for her delicious coconut cakes. She had no children but took care of many of her nieces and nephews, one of whom, Darlene Anderson, she virtually adopted. She has always been a loving and caring person sharing what she had with others. One of the highlights of her life was her 100th birthday party hosted by her caregivers at LIVINGSPRING ASSISTED LIVING located in Cooksville. Genevieve was also an adopted member of the Full Gospel Baptist Church in Cooksville where she regularly participated in Bible Study when she was able to do so. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Cook, her parents, Clarence and Lily Anderson, sisters Dorothy Smith and Estella Hall and brother Earl (Spud) Anderson. She leaves to mourn her brother Vernon Anderson and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to being lovingly cared for by her caregiver, Reverend Ruth Olorunfemi, her sister Dorothy’s girls: Shirley Myers, Rosele Stanton, Mable Holland, Joan Hash and Jean James made sure “Aunt Bee” never wanted for anything. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her but the memories she left behind will be remembered and forever treasured. The family will receive friends from 11am to 12pm at Mt. Gregory United Methodist Church, 2325 Route 97, Cooksville, MD where a funeral service will follow at 12pm. Interment will be in Bushy Park Cemetery, Woodbine.
