Mrs. Frances E. Swanner

Frances Edith Swanner, age 100, of Sykesville, Maryland passed away peaceful on Friday, December 11, 2020. She was born February 24(27), 1920 in Mitchell County, NC to the late Archie and Lydia Davis. She married the love of her life, Robert Swanner, in Johnson City, TN. She was predeceased by her husband Robert; brothers and sister-in-laws Wiley and Mabel Davis and George and June Davis; brother-in-law Bill Swanner; children Kenneth, Juanita (Lord), Helen and Thomas; grandson Bryan Lord; great-grandson Noah Stull and great, great-grandson Atticus Lord. She is survived by her sister-in-law Barbara Swanner; Hazel Robinson Bennett who was loved like a daughter; son-in-law Gene Lord; granddaughters and spouses Kimberly (Lord ) and Keith Kirk and Chrissey (Swanner) and James Stull and great-grandchildren Robert and fiance Samantha, Lorin, Luke, Shannon, Carter and Caleb and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. Frances attended school in Buladean, North Carolina. She was ahead of her time, owning and running a gas station and grocery store in Johnson City, TN before moving to Maryland with her family in 1949. In Maryland, she worked as a nurse’s aide at Springfield Hospital for over 20 years. After their retirement, Frances and Robert along with their daughter, Helen, enjoyed 19 years of wintering in Sebring, FL. Frances loved spending time with her family and friends. She was a member Elders Baptist Church and lived a life that honored her faith. She was an avid story teller, gardener and card player. She loved camping and was blessed to travel most the USA in their camper, frequently visiting Chincoteague VA. Her interests included gardening, fishing, crabbing, sewing, baking, crocheting and needle pointing. Some of the highlights of her year included the Francis family reunion in July which she was able to attend until the age of 99 and spending holidays and birthdays with family. She credited her longevity to “good, healthy living and a little bit of orneriness”; her sense of humor always kept us laughing. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 18, 2020 from 4 to 7pm at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at 10am at Elders Baptist Church, 1216 Liberty Road, Eldersburg, MD. Interment will follow in Lake View Memorial Park. Masks must be worn and social distancing observed with a limit of 50 persons at the funeral home and church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Elders Baptist Church.
