Ernest Thomas III, USN, SW, Ret.

On Friday August 25,2023 Ernest Thomas III transitioned peacefully at his home in Eldersburg, Maryland with his loving wife and mother by his side. Ernest was born on August 29, 1968, in Detroit Michigan, he was raised in a loving home by his parents Andrea and William Parks. At age 12 he met his wonderful Dad William Parks who showed him so much love and guidance, helping him to become the man he later became. He attended and graduated from Cass Technical High School, after graduation he enlisted in the Navy on September 8th, 1986, where he began his Naval career and served in the United States Navy for 23 years which included serving during wartime, he later rose to the rank of a Chief Petty Officer, and he retired in December of 2009. Ernest was highly respected by his colleagues and supervisors for his diligence, dedication and leadership skills, paving the way for others to follow in his footsteps. In addition to his military careers, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in computer science from Norfolk State University, after graduating from college, Ernest started the second phase of his career with the Department of Defense at National Security Agency. In 2021, Ernest began his pursuit of a master’s degree at the University of Maryland, later that year he became ill and had to discontinue his endeavor. Ernest met his beautiful wife Mavis Rose 30 years ago and has been married for 26.5 wonderful years, the union consists of 3 beautiful children, they enjoyed each other’s company, they love traveling and having quiet times with the family. Ernest enjoyed dancing, listening to music and especially enjoyed precious times he spent with his family. Ernest is survived by his loving wife Mavis Thomas, his daughter Paris Williams (husband Brandon and their son Easton); his sons DeAndre and Devin Thomas. Parents Andrea and William Parks, sister Joy Lewis (husband Alton) and the Lewis family, mother in-law Sadie Thomas and a host of families and friends. Ernest was loved by so many, if love was enough to keep him alive, he would have lived forever. A memorial service with military honors will be held at 9:30am on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville, MD. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly request that contributions be made to either National Coalition for Homeless Veterans, Washington DC or Capital Food Bank in Washington, DC where Ernest volunteered countless hours.
